Our work includes: Art Education AIR program Art, Books en Wine IFAA (International Festival and Artists in residency Platform) Library Collecting contemporary art Training Toolkit (for developing independent artists run spaces – cultural centers) Online resources Thamgidi gift shop Thamgidi Fund Our Art Education program was developed due to our awareness of the power education has in shaping our attitudes, beliefs and value systems; since education is at the core of societal development, stimulating and nurturing creativity from an early age is at the heart of our work. Projects currently running within our Art education program are; Art classes and Art & Young People. Read more The AIR program, artist in residency which began in 2005 has since then been running through a partnership with different art institutions and residency centers in Western Europe, West Africa and Southern Africa. The disciplines eligible for the AIR program include: Visual Arts, Ceramics, Performing Arts, Textile Art, Fashion, New Media, Architecture, Design, Law, Curators, Art critics, and Art history. Read more Art, Books en Wine, realized for Building Knowledge and Connecting People is an initiative of Thamgidi Foundation done in partnership with Boekhandel Hijman en Arends. Its purpose is to facilitate artistic and literary discourse, knowledge building and to connect people. Read more IFAA; Thamgidi Foundation’s major project – is an international, cross-disciplinary festival and artist in residency platform taking place in different cities across the globe. The IFAA activities include; artist in residency, exhibitions, debates, a curatorial research platform, outreach programs, fashion, performances, food from different cultural backgrounds, film, projects in public space, literature, a 1 week festival featuring the mentioned activities and an online resources. Read more Collecting contemporary art began with the realization that arts and cultural heritage from the African continent are disappearing on a daily basis to the western world and beyond, thus draining the continent of its creativity and intellectual activity. Read more The Training + Toolkit for Starting and Managing Independent artists run spaces has been developed with the purpose of supporting artists / managers within the African continent and its diasporas interested in sharpening their leadership and management skills. Read more Online resource centre is a portal that was created with the purpose of making it easy for people working in creative industries to access information for free. Created under the IFAA Art Platform social network on Facebook, Read more Our Gift shop has a fantastic range of handmade pillow cases, prints, Ndebele baskets, postcards, Ndebele and Masai beadwork, consisting of clothing accessories from belts, hats to jewelry. The Thamgidi Fund was founded by artist S’thabile Mlotshwa whose desire was to create a fund for arts and culture that would support international cross- cultural exchange and strengthen the work of cultural operators from the African continent. She began this initiative due to her concern of the lack of funding structures within the African continent and the detrimental impact dependency on western funding has on the development of intellectual activity in the African continent. Her biggest concern was and still is the loss of cultural resources, cultural heritage and of contemporary art that is disappearing on a daily basis to the western world and beyond. Read more |
